Linda Comerford
In 1989, Linda Comerford decided to combine her middle school and adjunct faculty teaching experience into a new business: Comerford Consulting specializing in writing and grammar training.
When Linda was studying to become a teacher, she saw a T-shirt with a picture of a tombstone containing the words:
Here Lies Stu Dent
Died Too Young
Bored to Death
Considering that only a few of her teachers could be described as memorable, she related to the ironic humor. That’s when she formulated her recipe for success. She took the ingredients of her knowledge about writing and grammar, sifted them for the most practical ones that would benefit those struggling to write and edit in the business world, spiced them up with her trademark personality to deliver them, and iced them with humor to create Workshops that Work! Her writing ability motivated her to create customized training manuals that enhance her programs, and the rest is history.
She marvels how much her clients helped shape her 28-year history. Because the participants in her workshops rated them so highly, training directors soon had her branching out to offer additional subjects she’d never even considered.
Examples: With her captivating delivery skills, could she create a workshop to help presenters add interest to their talks too? Since she was already teaching written grammar, could she expand that to oral grammar? Once that was successful, could she incorporate those speaking skills into customer service training? How about interpersonal communication skills? Those led to her Communicaring series. In addition to training, she soon found herself offering one-on-one coaching in those subjects, often with executives of major corporations.
